It’s impossible to miss the scent of rose geranium, and when combined with sweet lavender and delicious cocoa butter, it exudes an absolutely heavenly fragrance!
That was exactly the heavenly fragrance that filled the air in our car when I first unscrewed the lid of my Luscious Cocoa. It immediately brought about a note of excitement from one of my daughters, “I smell air bandung!”she exclaimed. Air bandung is rose syrup mixed with milk, a popular Malaysian drink. The dear girl was fasting, so no wonder. That scent piqued our interest and made us instantly reached into the tin and applied a generous amount of the cream onto our hands. From that moment, we were hooked!
Why Cocoa Butter?
According to Claire Organics, cocoa butter :
- is among the best moisturizers as it penetrates through the outer layer of the skin to reach the skin layer below and moisturizes and repairs the skin effectively leaving your face soft, supple and glowing
- has very strong antioxidants (flavonols) that help in fighting free radicals that are the major cause of aging and diseases like cancer.
- is beneficial for dry skin and if applied on face regularly will help in managing and even treating dry skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis which are characterized by itchy, scaly and dry skin.
Luscious Cocoa by Claire Organics
Now, we religiously apply Luscious Cocoa on our hands daily. We love the feeling of being pampered by its luxurious texture. Actually, I also use it on my face during the early mornings, and sometimes, even at night when the air is cooler. Although Claire Organics advises that luscious cocoa be applied on the face at least twice a day for better results, I feel a slight itchiness if I sweat not long after application. I have combination skin, prone to oiliness around the t-zone, therefore I don’t feel comfortable applying creams on my face when it’s sweaty.
Luscious Cocoa is loaded with incredibly healthy ingredients such as Refined Cocoa Butter, Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Vitamin E Oil, Beeswax and Essential Oils of Rose Geranium and Lavender – how can we not adore it when it sound like a healthy Mediterranean dish served on a field of roses and lavenders?
Based on the above list of product ingredients, Luscious Cocoa uses essential oils of Rose Geranium and Lavender, whereas most hand creams uses synthetic fragrance. The difference between essential oils and synthetic fragrance is that essential oils easily dissipate into the air, unlike synthetic fragrances that need toxic solvents to make the synthetic fragrances become volatile so that they can dissipate into the air. And I believe the purpose of adding essential oils in Luscious Cocoa is to give more benefits to its users as essential oils are known to have healing properties when inhaled or applied to the skin.
“Incredibly loaded with high antioxidants, anti-aging, minimize stretch mark, deep hydration, soothe sensitive skin.” Stated on the front label of Luscious Cocoa
As one who is above 40, I do need all of those, except maybe the part about ‘soothe sensitive skin’. My skin is all but sensitive. In fact, according to my mom, I was born with dry, rough hands. The hands of a working female, I guess. And I wouldn’t have minded it a bit, seeing that I have been living with these hands superbly since forever. If not for the sorry state that it’s in now – all wrinkly, gnarled and really, really tired-looking (old?), these hands would have remained neglected.
Luscious Cocoa at Modshop
That’s the reason I decided to purchase Luscious Cocoa at Modshop, after 4 decades of avoiding hand creams. I could have just bought any of the many hand creams available everywhere, but I would like to be certain that it would be safe for me to handle food with hands covered in hand cream, without the need to wash it off first. Most conventional hand creams contain chemicals that I would prefer to avoid unless absolutely necessary. I am not trying to be a snob here, but since I have a choice, I would rather be safe than sorry. Wouldn’t everyone?
The price is not bad either. Even though it’s not certified organic, at RM20 (20g), it is one of the most affordable organic skincare in Malaysia. Though I made the purchase through Modshop, I believe my Luscious Cocoa was delivered by Claire Organics. The packaging was very pretty, complete with a complementary sample-sized Rose Hips soap which I shall write about soon.
So far, after more than a week of using Luscious Cocoa religiously, I notice huge improvements in terms of the texture of my hands. As you can see, barring the new brown spot caused by oil splatters while cooking, my hand looks pleasantly hydrated. And using it on my face before I apply my tinted moisturiser does not cause any adverse effects at all.
I also applied it on a minor cut on my son’s forehead which was not healing well. The next day it started to heal nicely. I guess Luscious Cocoa is magical as well.
Claire Organic’s Luscious Cocoa is suitable for all skin types. Each balm is carefully handmade and manually packed to retain the quality freshness. It is also best for pampering our body after bath.
Additional Info : This skincare item was personally bought through Modshop. While Luscious Cocoa is not certified organic, it is made of organic ingredients such as organic extra virgin olive oil and organic extra virgin coconut oil.
