This morning, I felt a pain in the neck when I woke up for work. A thought instantly occurred to me – is this a sign that my job is not my Ikigai? I was tempted to take an emergency leave, but fortunately my Annmarie Pure Essential Oil Signature Blends, Vibrance, came to the rescue.
What is Ikigai?
What is Ikigai? Do you know what your Ikigai is?
In the simplest of terms, Ikigai means ‘your reason for being’. Some say, your calling. Others say, it is the thing that can make you happily get out of bed early in the morning. Something that excites you into making the most out of your day. Something you would love to do until you reached old age.
‘Activities that allow one to feel ikigai are never forced on an individual; they are often spontaneous, and always undertaken willingly, giving the individual satisfaction and a sense of meaning to life.’ – Nakanishi, Ikigai in ‘Older Japanese People’
Let us have a look at this popular illustration of Ikigai.
It looks like Ikigai touches profession, vocation, mission and passion. By that reasoning, watching tv or lounging endlessly is not Ikigai, because it is not a profession nor a vocation (for the good of others). On the other hand, tending to your garden can be your Ikigai because if you do it well, it could be a profession (can sell veggies), be a vocation (your calling because you’re good at it), a mission (good for the environment) and since you love doing it, a passion.
I think Ikigai is mostly passion, something you would love to do on a daily basis that will nurture your inner potential. That if you lived in a community like in the Divergent series, where everyone has their line of work, you would choose to do that particular thing for life.
For some of us, it’s their work (lucky people!) and they get paid to do it daily. But for most of us, it’s things other than our day-job. A desire or goal for the future, something that adds value.
Honestly, I suspect that my day-job is not my Ikigai. Well, time will tell – I’m still new to it. Well, this morning, after I showered, the pain persisted but I refuse to take painkillers. Instead, I felt inspired to have a look at my Annmarie Essential Oil blends and chose one to ease the persistent ache.
Annmarie Pure Essential Oil Signature Blends
In my earlier post, I have shared about the beneficial properties of pure essential oils (EO). Unlike the conventional fragrance or perfume which uses synthetic fragrance, pure EO can make a difference in our well-being and emotions without adversely affecting our health.
Pure Essential Oils vs Synthetic Fragrance
I seriously encourage everyone to avoid anything that contains synthetic fragrance such as conventional perfumes, syampoos and air fresheners. Why? Because they are possible endocrine/hormone disruptors. Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that can interfere with endocrine (or hormone) systems at certain doses. These disruptions can cause cancerous tumors, birth defects, and other developmental disorders. Any system in the body controlled by hormones can be derailed by hormone disruptors.
Hormones affect our bodily functions such as metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood. Hormone/endocrine disruptors are suspected to be responsible for weight gain, depression, learning disorders, etc.
I have used EO from Claire Organics and Miessence. Recently I decided to try EO blends samples from Annmarie Skin Care. The samples are so small and cost me USD20, inclusive of international postage and a USD10 rebate for future purchase. So, it’s almost free!
Annmarie has 5 signature blends of pure EO – Calm, Grounded, Love, Passionate and Vibrance. I chose the sample that comprises Calm, Grounded and Vibrance. Sorry, my pic is so bad and laden with my fingerprints, huhuhu…
Meet Vibrance, my EO choice for alleviating neck pain . If I bought the normal sized EO, it would look like this:
Vibrance is a blend of the following essential oils :
Citrus paradisi (ruby red grapefruit), Citrus limon (italian lemon), Citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot), Lippia citriodora (lemon verbena), *Lavandula angustifolia (lavender), Citrus clementina (clementine), *Jasminum sambac (jasmine sambac absolute), Pelargonium roseum (rose geranium). *Organically grown or wildcrafted
Wildcrafted means hand picked in the mountains where they grow wild. With wildcrafted herbs, we can be sure that no commercial farming methods have been used, and that the plants are hearty, vibrant and full of skin-nourishing nutrients.
Even a whiff of Vibrance uplifted my spirits – I really am partial towards citrusy scents. Then I dabbed a drop onto my wrist, and enjoyed the scent a few moments more. Somehow, the pain slipped my mind and by the time I was inside the car, 15 minutes later, I noticed that it has significantly subsided, almost gone. I suspect it could be psychosomatic, ie due to my reluctance to go to work.
Throughout the day, I re-applied 1 or 2 drops of Vibrance when the pain recur (about 2 or 3 hours) and each time, it magically disappeared – totally.
How To Use Vibrance
Apply 1-2 drops onto wrists, or add to a carrier oil (such as pure coconut, olive, or grapeseed) and apply like a moisturizer. Use it in your diffuser, or add it to water to make a room spray.
